Match Report
RGS The Grange Worcester Girls-U11A vs  Haberdasher's Monmouth Despontin U11 Tournament
On: Saturday, 07 Oct 2017
Venue: Away

On Saturday 7th October the U11A team went over to Haberdashers Monmouth School for their annual U11 Despontin Hockey Tournament. Despite being drawn in a strong group and the matches being a mammoth 14 minutes long, the girls won all their group matches, without conceding a single goal!

The girls then went through to the semi-finals where they played The Elms who we knew were going to be tough competition but the girls were raring to go and went out feeling determined to make it in to the final. They attacked from the offset and quickly began to score.

We were through to the final where the girls took on Redmaids who we’d beaten 1-0 in the groups earlier in the day so we knew it was going to be a close match. As the final whistle blew 14 minutes later the score was still 0-0 and it was time for a 5 minute golden goal!

You could have cut the tension with a knife as we played some fantastic hockey and had numerous shots at goal. Unfortunately though, they all just kept missing the goal and before we knew it Redmaids had gained possession and were flying down the pitch towards their goal. With one beautiful shot they scored and won the tournament, which was obviously a disappointing end to a long day, however we had to keep our heads held high and remember that we had beaten all the other teams there to come Runners Up. The girls played some fantastic hockey and demonstrated many of the skills they had been working on in recent games and club sessions.

Well done on a super day and a fantastic achievement – you should all be extremely proud of yourselves!
